I forgot to renew my driver's license and got a ticket for it, my license other than expiring was in good standing. What should i get ready for at the judge? I plan to renew my drivers license before court date. Thanks!

  1. First thing - renew your license.

You need to be able to explain why you were unable to renew your license to the courts. If you were in the military and unable to renew due to deployment, I think your in the clear. If you moved, and missed the renewal, then your might have a case. The judge might even consider the length of time for the license being expired, including any other issues around the ticketing: Reason for the ticket stop, whether you had insurance, etc.

I'm kind of surprised you need to go to court instead of just paying the fine and moving on.

Anyway - first thing of importance is to renew your license immediately.

Finally - if you are in some kind of financial bind, you might be able to sway a reduction in fine if thats related to the lapse of your license.

Second Finally - make sure to practice your explanation prior to court so you can better explain your situation.
