Fingal Bay uncertain for Neptune race – Horseracing Update
Philip Hobbs’ talented gelding, Fingal Bay, seems to be uncertain to participate in the Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle after picking up a hamstring injury.
With an unbeaten record of five consecutive victories, the six-year-old currently heads the betting market for the high-value Grade 1 contest of March 14.
The 118 ace runners are weighing their wings to compete on 2m5f Cheltenham course for the ace title. But, unfortunately, Fingal Bay’s entry has become dubious due to his recent fitness problems.
The news of the brilliant gelding’s injury sparked great unrest in the market last night and the bookmakers started thinking of reshuffling the betting odds.
While talking to the media, Hobbs said, “I'm not sure at this stage if this will prevent him from running at the festival. We'll monitor the situation and will know more next week."
Starting his career on February 13, 2011, the Mrs R J Skan-owned gelding has won all of his five races so far. He has been delivering terrific and impressive performances on different racing tracks throughout his career.
Fingal Bay last ran on December 31, 2011 at Newbury and finished 1st against 4 competitors. He was 1-4 favourite for that contest. The dashing runner’s total earning is £56,941.
Neptune event was being perceived as a major challenge for the gelding’s capabilities but his injury has dashed all the dreams of his trainer and fans to ground.
Some medical experts opine that if Fingal Bay manages to recover ahead of the mega race, he will not be able to run with confidence and courage.
Thus, the trainer will try his best to keep his pupil away from Cheltenham Festival as much as possible as he does not want him to have any full stop before his excellent success streak.
At one side the news of Fingal Bay’s injury has upset the bookies, but on the other side it has created a ray of hope for the other Neptune entries to win.
Currently, both the betters and the sport fans are eagerly waiting for any final decision about Fingal Bay’s fate. The decision is expected by the end of this month.
