  1. Count the same direction that children read-so left to right! It encourages pre-reading skills and writing skills for later on.

    I know what u mean-its important to have consistency-no point doing it one way one day another the next!

    Also-counting one finger at a time supports mathematical development and is an important concept for learning 1=1, 2=2 rather than learning just the rhyme of 1,2 ,3, 4, 5 (hope that makes sense) so to all those who answer questions with stupid answers designed to make questionner seem stupid :-p

  2. 1Thumb

    2Index Finger

    3middle finger

    4ring finger

    5pinky

    6thumb

    7index finger

    8middle finger

    9ring finger

    10pinky

  3. 1= index finger

    2= middle

    3=ring

    4=pinky

    5=thumb

    6= index finger

    7= middle

    8=ring

    9=pinky

    10=thumb

    dont worry too much about it and i dont think it really matters which hand you use first. and i would aviod using your middle finger first becuase obviously thats swearing!

  4. I use index finger for 1, index and "tall man" for 2, add thumb for three 3, ringfinger four 4, pinky 5, add other index 6, other "tall man" 7, other thumb 8, other ring finger 9, and other pinky 10.

  5. 1= index finger

    2= index finger and middle finger

    3= index and middle finger and thumb.

    4= index, middle, ring and little finger (u put ure thumb down)

    5= All fingers

    Then u keep up that hand and do the same with the other hand.

    6=1

    7=2

    8=3

    9=4

    10= have all fingers up on both hands

  6. Hmmm... I use thumb of left hand first, then index - pinky, then thumb of right hand index - pinky, so starting with the thumbs, and working towards the pinky.  I think its easier that way as if the hands arefacing palm up, the fingers of each hand move in order.

  7. index

    middle

    ring

    little

    thumb

    index

    middle

    ring

    little

    thumb

  9. It depends if I'm teaching someone to count (including foreigners studying English) or if I'm just indicating a number, maybe in a noisy environment.

    In the teaching situation I would start with the thumb on the left hand for one, then work my way to the little finger, pointing, with my left index finger, to each one in turn. Then I'd indicate six by adding my right thumb, obviously I can't point now, followed by each finger, my right little finger being the last to raise. In all gestures the palm would be towards the person.

    Now, just to indicate a number it would be:

    1 right index

    2 middle finger

    3 ring (fourth) finger

    4 little finger

    5 thumb (still right hand)

    and then the same sequence on the left hand for the numbers 6 to 10. Again the palms would be towards the person.

    Christina: you really ought to get a life. In some cultures certain finger gestures can be offensive.

  10. Actually I use the American Sign Language to teach them to count with fingers.  But if we're counting our fingers, then I would just hold up how many we were talking about and count them. I hope that made sense - good luck to you.

  11. why is this question even interesting to you.. i cant believe i even clicked on it let alone read it.. geeze, if you want to know the answer then count with your own d**n fingers.. or do you not have any?

    just incase  you actually dont have any.. i dont mean to cause offence

  12. Actually, 10 is different in Chinese.  They cross their 2 index fingers, making an "x" like in Roman Numerals.  They do 6-9 on one hand as well.

    1- index finger up.  Rest closed in a fist.

    2- index and middle fingers.  Rest closed in a first.  The thumb is placed on the ring finger.

    3- index, middle, ring fingers are up.  Pinky and thumb are touching at their finger tips.

    4- index, middle, ring, and pinky fingers are up.  Thumb is pressed inward against the palm.

    5- all 5 fingers are up.

    6-10 is similar.  You have the 5 fingers up on the one hand and then you hold up 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 on the other hand.  Added together, they make up 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10.   (5 on one hand and 2 on the other is 7)
