Fingers crossed as campaign for Wii U iteration of Dark Soul II continues
During the first week of this month, From Software made the announcement that hardcore gamers had been waiting for since months: Dark Souls II is in the works.
In less than three days after the publisher revealed the game at the 2012 Video Game Awards show and dished out some additional details during a press conference that followed, such as the sequel to the critically and commercially acclaimed action role-playing
open world video game being developed for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, an online petition asking the company to bring the game to Wii U as well appeared at Change.org.
The online petition, was attracted more than 3000 signatories within a few hours since going live, is created with the intended motivation of putting some amount of pressure on the Dark Souls makers to consider a Wii U iteration of the game.
The petition’s creator cited a couple of reasons that make Nintendo’s first-ever HD console an excellent platform for the upcoming Dark Souls game.
According to him, the unique tablet-inspired controller, GamePad, introduced by Nintendo has the potential to synergise excellently with the in-game content, especially the inventory.
He believes that the users will find it much more convenient to manage their inventory and search for items on GamePad’s screen, which will consequently resolve the issue of inventory obscuring the view on the TV screen.
Another reason why From Software should consider bringing Dark Souls II to Wii U, according to the petition’s creator, is the affordability.
It is a well-known fact that a decent gaming PC requires a lot of investment, something that not an average gamer can afford. Majority of the gamers are still acquiring education and therefore find it hard to come across big money that is required to build
a beefy computer.
Dark Souls II is a visually stunning game and is expected to extract a lot out of the computer, which is bound to bring the issue of getting a new graphics card or faster processer to run the game smoothly and at its best specs.
Xbox 360 is also rates relatively low on affordability in comparison to Wii U due to the yearly fee that users have to pay for an access to Xbox Live.
With Wii U featuring free access to its online features, Dark Souls II will benefit from the affordability as gamers would be easily able to connect with each other to enjoy the multiplayer mode. It is important to mention here that Nintendo does, in fact,
charge a one-time fee of $0.50 to register a minor’s account, though the measure is taken solely to ensure that minors do not access online space without the consent of their parents or guardians.
One still finds it hard to understand why the creator of the Wii U Dark Souls II petition considers Sony’s current-generation console less affordable than Nintendo’s next-generation console, since the former is available at a cheaper rate in the market and
does not charge anything extra for access to the PlayStation Network either.
While the case created in favour of an iteration of Dark Souls II for Wii U seems quite promising, From Software will definitely have its own reasons to keep the game off Nintendo’s dual-screen gaming console.
It would indeed be a very good idea to bring Dark Souls II to Wii U, not only because of the reasons cited by the person who created the online petition, but also because of the fact that Nintendo’s next-generation console is still in its infancy years and
will be there for a good many years.
