my mother is my guardian, i need to send hesc her income tax return form, but it's a joint return with my stepdad. my stepdad is not finicially responsible for me. if i tell hesc, would they considered not counting my stepdad's part. I also mail along my mother's w2 form to show her individual adjusted gross income. is this all hopeless?

  1. Your mother must be your parent of record.  Therefore, because she is remarried you must count both your mother and stepfathers information on your fafsa.

It sounds like you've been selected for verification and so you must provide your mother's 2007 federal tax return and all W2's associated with that return.

If you did not include your stepfather's information on your FAFSA you'll need to go back and make corrections.

It is a bit confusing and kind of a pain, but these are the steps you must take in order to receive any financial aid.

    Good Luck.

  2. What is HESC?? Anyway, they will probably count your stepfathers aid if your parents were married and lived in your household during the year 2007. Since he is in your household, it will be hard to convice him that his money is not used to support you. Make sure you also have yours and your parents tax form signed or else they will not count them! But it is worth a try, go in and talk to the fin aid advisors and see if you can go around having him counted and maybe they will have you fill out a special circumstance form etc.
