Question:

Finishing community college in 1 year?

I'm starting community college (Miami Dade) in 3 weeks as a freshman (fall) and I'll take 18 credits (5 courses and a lab for chem). Next semester (spring), I will most likely take 18 again and for the summer term 18 more. For my community college you need to get 60 credits to graduate, get the AA degree and transfer out. I have some AP credits that I will present to my college and I checked the values and it comes out to 7 credits (AP Spanish Language).

To add it up we have 18 18 18 7=61 credits total.

So, hypothetically....,

if this was to occur and I finish MDC next summer, when can I apply and transfer to a university (I have two picks, FIU or FSU)?

Can the applying/transferring be done in time if the 08-09 summer graduation and next year's fall term are so close or can I apply/transfer to FIU or FSU sooner while still being on the spring or summer terms? (BTW, graduating from MDC guarantees admission to any Florida Public University.)

  2. You sound like a pretty dedicated student.  I would apply to the universities in the spring even though you have not yet graduated from MDC.  You can always speak with the admissions departments to discuss your situation.  As I'm sure you know, applications can sometime take many weeks to process.  You also need time to plan out living situations.

Bottom Line: It doesn't hurt to apply early...It does hurt to apply too late.
