Question:

Finishing order question....... What if?

I was watching race rewind for last weekends race and at one point the commentator stated that Kenseth and Ky Busch were timed in a "dead-heat" coming across the finish line on about lap 264. Meaning there times were identical. What if that happens for the checkered flag? I wonder what they would do? Go back to the last scoring loop? Flip a coin? Have the crews fight over the trophy? Anybody have any knowledge on this? I know that it would be extremely rare, next to impossible, but apparently it can happen......

  1. They would go to the tape with the 10,000,000 X zoom on it, and be able to see who squeaked by the finish line first--thank god for modern technology! ;-)

  2. they might have been running identical times, but they didn't cross the line at exactly the same time. i know there have been wins of 1/1000ths of a second in truck series, but no "dead heats" that i've heard of. just a guess here, but most ties go to whoever is higher in the points standings. totally a guess. i think both drivers should have to get out and run a lap and let that decide...

    ;-)

  3. That is a great question; I would say that IF it happened.......It would be a tie.

  4. its IMPOSSIBLE to run the same time they would just hav to go further into decimals

  5. I'd like that to happen. It has happened a qualifying in a somewhat increasing number of times. It would be interesting to see what would NASCAR do if a race's outcome was to be decided by this.

Who knows while everyone focuses on the winner this actually may have happened in the other 41 finishing positions...

  6. Whoever does the best burnouts......

    Kyle wins!

  7. Give it to the closest in terms of decimal points.

Round it to the thousandths of a second...and so on.

Would be cool to see a Kyle Busch and Jimmie Johnson trophy fight...Johnson would woop him!

    lol.

  8. right rowdy some one is in front if it a 1/4 inch

like when darnell beat benson at mich in trucks.008

  9. I would imagine they go to who led the most laps. It definitly can happen. Talladega qualifying had David Gilliland and Jeff Gordon with identical times and they went to owners points.
