Finland secures second place in European qualifier of CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship
April 15 saw the final day of the European qualifier round of 2012 CEV Junior Volleyball European Championship - Men being held in several countries with some hosting the women while others featuring the men matches.
Three matches took place in every host city with six teams making a show of their skills in the city of Bar, Montenegro as well.
The first match of the day took place between Greece and Belarus with the win going to the Greeks at 3-1. The victory has enabled the Greeks to move directly into the final round of the tournament as the team was able to top the pool rankings.
The second match of the day took place between Finland and Sweden. The contest did not take too long to reach its conclusion as the match finished in three sets. The Finns were able to make a clean sweep over their opponents. The sweep over Sweden was accomplished
with ease as the Finns did not get much of a competition from their opponents and as a result, won each set of the match by a significant margin.
The scoreboard showed the following final set scores: 25-15, 25-17, and 25-16.
The key to an early Finn victory lay in the fact that they were able to maintain dominance and assert themselves by managing excellent blocks and performing strong service all through the game. As a result, the Finns were able to take the lead in the opening
set early on and managed to pull up ahead in no time. Therefore, bagging the first frame at 25-15 was an easy feat for Finland.
The second set saw the Swedish giving some competition in the beginning but their energy fizzled out and soon the Finns were leading again. Consequently, the second as well as the third set went to Finland at 25-17 and 25-16 respectively.
The final round of the European championship will be held in August this year with Poland as well as Denmark acting as the host countries. The matches in Poland will take place in Gdynia while the Danish city of Randers will feature the qualifying teams
as well.
