Finn has corrected his delivery stride error: Anderson – Cricket News Update
England pacer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757,
at Headingley in Leeds.
“He's trying to get tight into the stumps, and it's just when his knee bends that he touches the wickets,” Anderson said. “He’s obviously done something about it ... because in the afternoon and evening sessions he didn't do it again.
“So he's worked at it, and managed to eradicate it.”
With England having won the toss and elected to field first, and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473 opening at the crease, Finn’s knee knocked into the non-striker’s stumps thrice in the early stages of the match, on August 2.
Australian Umpire http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Stephen-James-Davis-c91106 did not intervene during the first three instances, although Finn was told to be careful, with the umpire warning him that his act of dislodging the bails was distracting the batsmen. On the fourth occasion, however, on which
Smith (then on 6) edged Finn to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964 at first slip in the 12th over, Davis called dead ball, with the Proteas granted a lifeline and the Poms visibly frustrated.
“... he [http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Davis-c53314] didn't actually warn us he was going to do it,” said Anderson, who also had Petersen dropped off his delivery at 29 in the 11th over. “We were slightly perplexed by that.
“But the batsmen said it was distracting ... and he finally decided he was going to call dead-ball. Unfortunately, it was the ball that we managed to get http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Smith-c90598 out.”
Davis cited Law 23.4(b)(vi), explaining that Finn’s right knee breaking the stumps mid-delivery had distracted Smith. The decision proved costly for the Poms as the Proteas skipper then went on to rack up an individual score of 52, in addition to establishing
a 120-run opening stand with Petersen (124*).
Following the incident, Davis called dead ball every time Finn disturbed the non-striker’s stumps, two of those occasions being when Smith hit boundaries. Meanwhile, the tourists went on to amass a total of 262 for 5 by the end of the first day, with Petersen
still going strong at the crease.
