Finnish F1 commentator Mika Salo believes in Kimi Raikkonen’s potential – Formula 1 news
Finnish F1 commentator Mika Salo believes that Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen has got the potential to claim victory in the forthcoming races of 2012 Formula 1 season.
Salo expressed his views and supported his compatriot, Raikkonen after the former F1 driver Jacques Villeneuve said that the Enstone based team may drop the Finnish driver who has been completely outclassed by his teammate, Romain Grosjean in the Canadian
Grand Prix held at Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in Montreal on June 10.
“Kimi has retained his natural ability to drive a car, but he and the team definitely haven’t come to terms about what he needs. But as for Jacques Villeneuve, I doubt he has even spoken a single word to Kimi about what problem really is. He is a complete
outsider,” he said.
Furthermore, he asserted that the 2007 world champion has developed a very good relationship with his team and he is positively looking forward to perform well in the approaching races.
“I still think Kimi will win a race this season when the weekend is spot on. Some in the media allege that they are breaking up, but the real situation is quite the opposite. The team has full respect for Kimi, and Kimi respects the team,” he insisted.
At present, Raikkonen is standing at 6th position in the drivers’ championship with 55 points. Moreover, he is just 2 points ahead of his teammate, Romain Grosjean and 12 points behind Nico Rosberg of Mercedes.
Meanwhile, Grosjean is at 7th place in the drivers’ rankings with 53 points and is 8 points ahead of Jenson Button of McLaren.
It will be important to mention that the team principal of Lotus, Eric Boullier said that they have full confidence in the abilities of both their drivers who are capable enough of winning.
Lotus have emerged as one of the most competent contenders in the season so far and are presently at 3rd place in the constructors’ championship with 108 points. Moreover, they are 11 points ahead of Ferrari and 25 points behind McLaren.
Above and beyond, they are trying their best to make the significant developments and necessary preparations to fight for this year’s championship title.
