Finnish Flash Teemu Selanne could be playing in Finland next season with looming lockout -NHL Update
There is no doubt in the fact that the Finnish Flash, Teemu Selanne, is ready to play another season in the National Hockey League (NHL), but with the lockout dangling over the heads of everyone, the legendary forward just might be heading off to play in
Finland in case if their worst nightmare does come true.
Losing Selanne due to a lockout would be disastrous for both sides as the player has already indicated a number of times that it very well may be his final depending on how healthy he is at the end of it all, but for now, all of these ideas are just assumptions.
If his 20th season in the NHL is put down to a lockout, Selanne has termed playing with Jokerit in his hometown of Helsinki in Finland, to be a last resort sort of option as he maintains a long relationship with the club along with having played
against them this previous pre-season in a Anaheim jersey.
“One of my best buddies [Jarmo Kekalainen] is the GM for them,” Selanne said, according to the OCRegister.com. ”Let’s see. I say that I want to think about it. Let’s see how things go and we’ll see. “Obviously I know there’s a spot for me if I want to go.
Like I said, I’m still optimistic but it doesn’t look good.”
Selanne on the other hand, has termed the possibility of him playing back in Finland dependant on only one condition and that is when a lockout truly does come into play, which at the moment, is a very real situation.
But the veteran is willing to put all of his options, including retirement, on the table before making anything official.
“I decided I’m not going to take any options before it’s official,” Selanne said. “I’m not going to go right away if there’s a lockout. I thik for a little while you just have to wait and see what’s going to happen. But if it’s going to go over a month,
then a lot of players have to make a decision on what they want to do.
