Finnish International Junior Championships: Iikka Heino–Mathilda Lindholm nail Mixed Doubles title
Iikka Heino and Mathilda Lindholm, the spirited shuttlers from Finland, lived up to the expectations as they claimed Mixed Doubles title at the home event of FORZA Finnish International Junior Championships 2012 on Sunday, November 25, in Finland.
In the final clash, Heino and Mathilda had to employ all of their skills and remained successful in batting their lower ranked compatriots Joonas Korhonen and Jenny Nystrom in a breath-taking manner by taking 45 minutes.
The top seeded Heino and Mathilda, who remained incredibly confident throughout the tournament, worked really hard in the arena and remained lucky in winning the match in rubber games with a tight margin on score board.
On the other hand, the second seeded Joonas and Jenny displayed their remarkable skills in the arena and troubled their higher ranked rivals throughout the battle. However, they remained unlucky in the ending points of final set and lost the match with a
respectable total.
In the starting set of this title battle, both couples showed their attacking skills in the arena and remained neck-to-neck all the way until the end of opening half.
After the break, Heino and Mathilda started to show their brilliance by taking the bird early from all areas. They worked really impressive at net and managed to grab the first set with a reasonable total of 21-18.
In the second game, both sides again played thrilling badminton by taking the bird early from all areas and remained toe-to-toe in the opening half.
After the break, Heino and Mathilda could not maintain their supremacy in the arena as they threw away many points by executing negative shots and lost the set with a margin of 18-21.
In the final set, both couples put in their best effort to take charge of rallies but none of them could create a reasonable lead until the one-minute interval.
After the break, both sides continued putting up spectacular show of attacking badminton and reached at the nail-biting stage of 21-21.
The top seeded Heino and Mathilda controlled their nerves at this stage and grabbed two consecutive points to wrap up the set with a 23-21 score on the board.
Heino and Mathilda remained lucky in winning this Mixed Doubles final in three games with a breath-taking total of 21-18, 18-21 and 23-21.
