Finnish Open 2012: Alex Bruce and Michelle Li secure Women’s Doubles title – Badminton news
Canada’s top shuttlers Alex Bruce and Michelle Li made their presence felt to the world as they secured Women’s Doubles title at the Finnish Open 2012 on Sunday, April 1, in Finland.
In the final contest, Alex and Michelle overpowered Malaysia’s Mei Kuan Chow and Meng Yean Lee in a thrilling rubber-set contest.
Alex and Michelle, who were second seeds in Women’s Doubles draw in Finnish Open, showed their elevated performance in the game and managed to win the contest in three sets by taking 43 minutes in the court.
On the other hand, the Malaysian duo also entertained the local crowd with their impressive skills but remained unlucky in the final set and eventually lost the title match with a decent margin on the board.
In the opening set, both sides remained close on the board as they were playing at the same speed. They kept the crowd engaged by playing fast and aggressive badminton in the whole match and remained close until the break.
After the interval, both sides continued playing in the similar fashion and reached at the ending stage while remaining equal.
At this stage, Alex and Michelle showed their brilliance and managed to grab the first set with a 21-19 margin on the board.
In the second set, Alex and Michelle could not continued their amazing run in the final match as the Malaysian lifted up their level of play and remained dominant throughout the set.
The Malaysian duo played flawless badminton in the second set and did not show any mercy to the second seeded Canadian opponents.
Alex and Michelle could not stop the progressive run of their rivals and lost the set with a 12-21 score on the board.
In the deciding game, both sides showed their hard-to-learn skills and progressed closely until the end of opening half.
After the break, Alex and Michelle changed their tactics and worked well at net. They were positive and composed at the concluding phase of final set and won it with a superb margin of 21-16.
Alex and Michelle emerged as winners in this title match with a 21-19, 12-21 and 21-16 score on the board.
