Fiorentina beat Palermo in a six goal thriller
Fiorentina beat Palermo 4-2 in a Serie A encounter at the Stadio Renzo Barbera on Sunday afternoon. Fiorentina twice came from behind after a late goal sealed the game for the visitors. Fiorentina, who have struggled this season on the road, secured a rare
away win. Palermo suffered their fourth consecutive defeat.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Adrian-Mutu-c3742 returned to the starting line-up after his falling out with the club, whereas new team-mate Valon Behrami started in the midfield for Viola. Palermo made no changes to their starting squad from their last game.
The home side made a blistering start to the game as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Artur-Boruc-c6728 to make it 1-0 for the hosts. The visitors looked
very settled in their play and didn’t panic after going a goal down. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alberto-Gilardino-c4324 came close to scoring twice. His first effort went just wide of the goal and shortly after that, he forced the Palermo goalkeeper to make a brilliant save to deny the visitors.
Palermo constantly troubled the hosts and they were rewarded for their patience and Gilardino opened the scoring for the visitors in the 36th minute. Behrami chipped the ball into the box and Gilardino headed in from close range to make it 1-1.
The Viola continued to dominate the proceedings as they went into half time as clearly the better performing side.
Soon after the break, the hosts regained their lead as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Antonio-Nocerino-c6332 planted a superb header from Fabrizio Miccoli’s chipped cross. The game dried up after the goal and both teams struggled to break. The hosts came close to doubling their lead after the
hour mark. Nocerino unleashed a blazing left foot effort which was beautifully saved by Boruc. In the 70th minute, Fiorentina found the equalizer through centre back, Michele Camporese. The youngster brought down the ball from a corner and fired
home into the right wing corner. After the equalizer, Fiorentina were all over Palermo as they went into the lead six minutes later. Substitute, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cesare-Bovo-c8730 stuck out his foot to clear it but turned the ball into
his own net. The own goal from Bovo handed the visitors the lead. Moments before the full time whistle the visitors doubled their lead through http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Riccardo-Montolivo-c31049. Ljajic’s low cross from the right was brilliantly finished by the Italian to seal the game for
the visitors.
The well-fought win puts Fiorentina in the 10th spot, while Palermo’s Champion’s League chances suffered a huge blow as they remain four points away from the fourth spot.
