Fiorentina look favourites to recruit Standard Liege’s Axel Witsel – Serie A news 
Fiorentina have expressed interest in Standard Liege midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Axel-Witsel-c7029, after the Belgian put in some impressive performances during the course of the season. The 22-year-old has already invited a lot of interest from several other European clubs and
there is a possibility that the youngster could find himself in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 or Italy for the upcoming 2011/12 season.
The Florence-based club announced that they would recruit some fresh blood into their line-up in order to bolster their chances of obtaining a European spot next season. The officials have confirmed that there are several players on the radar but no official
word has been exchanged by any of the individuals.
Witsel started his playing career with Standard Liege and after spending a couple of years in the club’s youth system, made his way into the club’s senior side. Since 2006, the midfielder has made 138 league appearances from which he has 30 goals. Since
joining the club, the 22-year-old has already won the Belgian Pro League on two occasions (2007/08, 2008/09). Witsel has won the Belgian Cup once (2010/11) and was a part of the team that won the Belgian Super Cup twice (2008 and 2009).
The youngster’s contract with the club is set to expire in 2015. However he has confirmed that the club would allow him to leave if Fiorentina come up with an acceptable offer.
Witsel was previously linked with the clubs like AC Milan, Bayern Munich and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Italy-c2926 before the start of 2011/12 season. Standard Liege finished the 2010/11 season second behind K.R.C. Genk only on
the goal difference.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Riccardo-Montolivo-c31049, is expected to part ways with the club and Witsel seems likely to fill in the boots of the 26-year-old. The midfielder enjoyed a decent six-year spell with the Tuscan based outfit and netted in 13 league
goals from a http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Total-c40747 of 186 Serie A appearances. The Italian International has now announced his desire to make a move to a bigger club in search of Silverware.
