Fiorentina’s Romulo is the new age Cafu, boasts Brazilian coach Carlos Dunga – Serie A Update
The former Brazilian national team tactician, Carlos Dunga, has hailed Fiorentina’s latest signing Romulo as the new age Marcos Cafu. Wildly regarded as the greatest right-back ever, Cafu is a legend in the footballing history and a role model for many.
Being compared to one of the greatest ever is a great honour for the 24-year-old Brazilian.
Romulo was on loan at the Brazilian Serie A club, Atletico Paranaense, since April this year. However, on his return to the parent outfit, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cruzeiro-c38870 Esporte Clube, Fiorentina advanced on the footballer and offered the Brazilian side 2 million Euros for the
transfer. The move was officially confirmed by the Tuscan giants on Thursday, and the player has arrived at Stadio Artemio Franchi for the 2011/12 season.
The Brazilian right-back has impressed the former national team coach. While talking to Corriere dello Sport, Dunga hailed Romulo as the finest of the current age.
“He reminds me of Marcos Cafu. He can reach the by-line remarkably easily. Romulo has tactical intelligence and above all incredible precision in sending crosses to the middle of the box.” The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Internacional-c39573 midfielder enthused.
Many critics have also compared the young defender to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan wingback Douglas Maicon, who has cemented himself as a crucial first team member since his arrival at San Siro in July 2006.
However, the 47-year-old former defensive midfielder believes that Romulo has more similarities with Cafu than he has with Maicon. The coach believes that Romulo and Cafu both have the same agility and stamina and that is something that makes the comparison.
“In http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 right-back,” concluded the Brazil
national team coach.
The Viola finished 9th in the Serie A last term and are keen to make a comeback in the 2011/12 season. The addition of Romulo would definitely help them strengthen their back line.
