Firas Zahabi: Georges St. Pierre’s knee looks good but needs time to get used to – UFC News
Georges St. Pierre’s mentor Firas Zahabi has said that he believes the current welterweight champion is looking in a good shape.
He added that structurally his knee is 100% but as far as the remaining factors are concerned, hard work and great effort is direly needed.
The world number one mixed martial art welterweight is on his way to make a comeback against Carlos Condit after recuperating from a serious almost career-threatening knee injury.
Firas stated, “Structurally, I think his knee is 100%. Of course the timing on his sparring is not 100% and the confidence in the knee is not 100% and the coordination, moving around on that knee is not 100%. For the last eight months, he's been over-compensating
on one side, moving a particular way, and now we're trying to get him to move again like he used to.”
It has been more than a year that UFC’s one of the best most versatile brawler has not seen the octagon. GSP left the octagon after being diagnosed an ACL knee injury. After careful examination it was finally revealed that it will take at least 10 months
for the champion to recover.
GSP is now back and ready to rumble and prove the critics that he still has got guts, power and the same old game that has helped him in collecting several high-profile awards and above all has made him the champion of his division in UFC.
However, GSP’s trainer Firas is not optimistic as far as his training and sparring or getting ready for the bout aspect is concerned. Zahabi explained that structurally his client’s knee is definitely looking good, adding that there are several other factors
that are needed to be handled such as coordination of the recovered knee with the other one and the whole body.
Despite the fact that Zahabi is facing bit difficulty initially, the head trainer at Tri-Star gym was of the view that it will take time, adding that one thing is a fact GSP is a talented and great athlete who is progressing by leaps and bounds.
When asked as to when he feels Georges will be ready to start the training camp Firas commented that most probably from August, adding that all concerns kept aside Pierre is looking good in totality and will get in form before his November 17, 2012 engagement
against Carlos.
