  1. actually, it depends for "fire" fire isn't really a compound but it is organic materials burning

methane, ethane, propane, butane, pentane, ... gasoline ... those are all carbon compounds that get burned

if you make a fire with wood, that's carbon,.. organic compounds

metals are not organic even though some metals are used in metabolic processes

water, well you can't really have life without water and water is used a lot in organic chemistry but, just pure water probably would not be considered organic on it's own.

  2. Inorganic.

Organic compounds are compounds that contain carbon. Fire, metals, and water do not contain carbon, so they're not organic.

  3. Fire is not a compound.  It isn't even a substance.  Fire is an exothermic chemical reaction that occurs when a fuel source oxidizes rapidly.  The heat produced by the reaction causes the burning material to become incandescent (meaning that it glows) and the air to become fluorescent.

Metals are elements, not compounds.  Mixtures of metals are called alloys, but they still aren't compounds.

Water is the only compound in this list, and it is an inorganic compound.  Organic compounds contain carbon atoms bonded to other carbon atoms or to hydrogen atoms.  The simplest organic compound is therefore CH4, or methane.  Water has the chemical formula H2O...in other words, no carbon is involved.

I hope that helps.  Good luck!

  4. I'm wondering more so on the context and exact words your biology teacher may have been using. Perhaps he is simply testing your ability to tell if a given substance is a organic, inorganic or not even a compound at all.

Most of this was answered already, but yes organic cmpnds have carbon, none of these do so they can't be organic. Fire is not a substance, sure you have to burn material to create the fire, but the fire itself is just visible energy.

  5. All are inorganic in nature. None contain life as men have come to define it.

Fire is a state of heat energy and plasmised gases.

Metals are metallic elements or alloys of metallic elements.

Water is an inorganic medium comprised of H20. It is often adulterated with other non-organic compounds like minerals and metals. It is, though, one of the prime substances that make life possible along with carbon.
