Fire Fighters at Collisions?

Hello,

I'm working on a presentation for college down south and i cant find the information I'm looking for. So i was wondering if there is any Fire Fighters who could help me or people who know about it.

I need to know "What are the responsibilities of the fire service at a collision, How do they work with other emergency personnel, What is there main roles at the collision and stuff like that basically. I really hope you can help....

  1. My department's custom is that we conduct triage on the victims.  This means asses their injuries and determine wether they can be moved before EMS or ambulances arrive.  If they can wait until the ambulances arrive to be moved and boarded.  Another task we do is secure the vehicles to make sure there is no fuel leaks or any other hazards.  We do not direct traffic, we leave that to law enforcement.  Once the victims are transported and the vehicles are secured we try to leave as soon as posssible so we can get our trucks and people out of harms way.  Some jurisdictions may be different but that is the way we do it.


  2. Check with your local fire service office.  I'm a retired volunteer and my office was always there to be of help with questions of this type and literature for handouts.
