Fire Lily heads on with enhanced chances for the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes at Leopardstown
The Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes (Fillies & Mares) will be hosted by Leopardstown over six furlongs on Thursday, 14th June. Competing for the €37,375 prize money is a line-up of ten three-year and older runners. Not all of them have raced at Leopardstown
but those who have tried their luck at the race course have not been able to pull out of it very decently.
The next to best ranking, a second position, has been struck there by Fire Lily.
Dansili’s three-year-old bay filly out of mare, Beauty Is Truth, started off her new season with racing at Leopardstown. She was the 7/4 favourite runner up of the Group 3 Leopardstown 1,000 Guineas Trial Stakes on 15th April over seven furlongs.
The race was won by the Aidan O’Brien trained Homecoming Queen but the second position of Fire Lily was well earned as she was adrift only by a neck’s margin.
Settling third behind the winner was Up.
The three-year-old kick started the season decently but then got stuck with a fifth and a sixth position in the two races that followed.
Her most recent try was in the Group 3 Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes on 26th May at Curragh over six furlongs. The race was won by Tiddliwinks while Fire Lily, the 9/4 favourite of the race, ended sixth on the track of eleven.
15th April this season was her first ever try at Leopardstown and if she could pull it that impressively back then, then there is little doubt in her almost inevitable win today.
There are two candidates for the race today who have won their seasonal debuts and are thus in form to endanger the chances of Fire Lily today.
Swiss Dream won the Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Kilvington Fillies’ Stakes on 12th May at Nottingham over six furlongs. She was paired up with Liam Keniry.
Gossamer Seed took charge of the Group 3 Canford Cliffs European Breeders Fund Athasi Stakes on 7th May at Curragh over seven furlongs. She won the race under the partnership of Shane Foley.
Fire Lily will be up against competition today but she enjoys the competitive edge that none of the other contestants has experienced till yet.
