Question:

Fire rated spots or normal 240v spots?

hiya guys im looking to buy some recessed spots for an upstairs bedroom which oviously has a ceiling with insulation above would i need to geth fire rated or can i use normal just ensure that the insulationg isnt in contact atall with the unit

  1. The Fire Regs. are different for different counties (in UK).  Our neighbours had to put in these special pots over the back of the downlighters.  Apparently it is just not the fact that the insulation in the loft should not cover them it is also because lots of holes bored in the ceiling board actually prevents it being a fire proof board.  Look on internet for info. from various Counties Fire Services.


  2. If you are in the USA, the spots would be 120 volt, not 240. Also you will need special fire rated that can contact insulation.  If you get the fire rated, it is better to move the insulation away from the fixture.
