Hey, i know this sounds totally stupid, but is there anything that doesn't put out a fire, but protects you against it? I mean like chemicals and stuff, not a fireman suit .

  1. I guess you could carry a fire shelter with you, like the firefighters.

You open the shelter when the fire is coming towards you and cover yourself with it....like a blanket.

  2. The substance Alum (potassium aluminum sulfate) has been used for years to "fireproof" almost any kind of cloth or other porous material.

To try it yourself: Take about 500 grams (1 lb. 1 oz) of alum and dissolve it into about one pint of HOT water. After its dissolved take a piece of material (old T-shirt) and dip it into the mix, covering the cloth totally. Remove the cloth (it doesn't need to soak) and let it dry completely. When its dry it might be a little bit stiff, but it will be fireproof! This "fireproofing" isn't permanent and will wash out.

DO NOT think this will protect YOU from fire! The effects are NOT permanent and will only keep the cloth from catching fire, NOT charring from heat!
