Fire turns the clubhouse of Mudgee Golf Club into ashes
Fire brought the Mudgee Golf Club down to earth on Thursday morning.
News flashed on the Australian media that the clubhouse of the Mudgee Golf Club had been gutted by the fire, which broke down in the early hours of the day. According to the report, police received a call at 2.30 am in the morning
that the right wing of the clubhouse was on fire. The fire brigade squad accompanied by the police reached the venue at 3.00 am and bought the fire under control. It took 6 fire units and 25 men to clean the mess, as half of the clubhouse was completely destroyed.
However, the squad managed to save the building housing, the proshop, and the old squash courts.
Marcia Box, who is a member at the club fought back tears and said that the club was her life. The vice-president of the club, Brian Insull expressed his sentiments in the following way. He said, “We have about 1000 members and
not all of them are golfers. Our members are here Wednesday nights and Friday nights when we have raffles and in the lead up to Christmas, we had our popular ham raffles. People would come to the club because they really enjoyed coming along.”
He further highlighted the fact that the club served the purpose of socialization for the residents of Mudgee Golf Club. Moreover, there were memories tangled in the establishment of the place, which the residents lost.
Apart from the intangible loss, the club had to say goodbye to the trophies that turned into ashes on Thursday morning. Club Manager Phillip Small explained, “Many trophies have been lost, some of which were up to 100 years old.”
While holding the remains of a rusty souvenir, Phillip added, “This was the trophy from the 1952 Grass Greens Championships. The chap, who is in his 80s and had it on his mantle piece for so many years, gave it back to the club only last week and that was
lost in the fire.”
The right side of the Mudgee Golf Club, which is located in Australia, was destroyed, when fire broke h**l in early hours of Thursday morning. The cause of fire has not been disclosed yet.
