Fire wire cables 4-4 pin Strange PROBLEM?

i have panasonic NV GS 47 camcorder.to transfer the video i bought 4 pin fire wire cable.my laptop has a 4 pin firewire port.now the STRANGE problem is that when one end of the cable fits both the camcorder and the laptop the other end doesnot suit.the other end looks like USB connector.ofcourse the cable is firewire.the problem is with one end.NOW how to solve it.Do i have to by a new cable with same ends or is there any converter adaptors available.

If you have a 4-pin to 4-pin, the connectors are the same on both ends of the cable.

If you have a 4-pin to 6-pin, the connectors are NOT the same - and the end that does not fit in the camcorder is bigger - just like you describe.

It sounds like you NEED a 4-pin to 4-pin but you are using either a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire cable or you are using the wrong (USB) cable.
