What is a Firearms Owner Identification (F.O.I.D) Card ?

Do you need one to buy a gun?

So what is the card for?

Only if you are in Illinois.  Otherwise, don't worry.

Check your states laws. They differ quit a bit from state to state.

You only need a FOID card to buy a firearm in Illinois. Otherwise the FOID card doesn't apply to you at all. In most states you don't need any type of license unless you want to conceal carry a handgun.

District of Columbia vs Heller. The gun laws has changed it's now on the state either to honor it or not. You can own one without stipulations.
