Question:

Firebelly toad is not eating...?

I have a firebelly toad that has not eaten in about 2 weeks. I have 4 crickets in the tank with him. He just stays in his water and when he's not in his water, he's just climbing up the side of the tank and then he's right back in the water again.

What should I do??? I'm worried he's going to starve to death.

  1. If the crickets are to big for him to handle then he wont eat it. If the crickets are the right size I don't know what could be the problem. Maybe he is unhappy with something in the enclosure?

  2. Don't worry, fire-bellied toads can go pretty long without eating. I reccommond that you mist the tank with a warm water mist daily and make sure the temperature is between 70-80 degrees. Make sure he is getting small crickets that are no longer than approximately a centi-meter. If you need any more information here is my website: BrettsToad.Googlepages.com

  3. do u leave crickets in the tank cause u shouldnt they can bite your toad. try other livefood such as chopped earthworms see if they work

  4. Just be patient, he's probably just a little stressed out.  Frogs can literally go months without eating, and be perfectly fine.

I would suggest covering three sides of his tank with cardboard/black construction paper so that he has more privacy and feels more at ease.  Just leave him alone for a while, and let him de-stress himself.

Also make sure your tank is warm enough, and the humidity levels are adequate.  This can easily stress your frog.

Feed him crickets that are no larger than the length between his eyes, and just remove any he does not eat.

    Good luck!
