well they are quite lazy and never ever move, they are in a 30 gallon tank, four toads and they are MONSTERS or bigger than normal, and two newts. how can i make them more moveable, they just sit in the same spot. There tank has a large dock for land and the tank is half full with water, should there be more land than water?

  1. actually the fact that there not very active isn't such a bad sign (esspecially with the newts) if a newt spends all day running around its a sign of major stress.

it also sounds like you've got the correct set-up.

ok here's reason why they might not go into the water much

water chemistry. have u used a water treatment/de-chorinator on any tap water u used. also have u got a good filter have u been doing your weekly 1/3 water changes. if u haven't got a filter have u been doing a 1/3 water change every day. if the water chem is bad (which it gets quickly due to the newts/toads skin toxins) then they wont go in it. (u can check this by getting a PH test kit and a nitrates test kit)

if they are young they go through a stage where they stay out of water its normal u dont need to do anyhting.

if there newt they might just not be totally comfortable in there enviroment

randomly one of my fire belly newts spend most of its time out of the water.

im sorry but these just aren't very active pets
