the bumpers have some very unattractive marks due to bad touch up work by the previous owner. I know for prep work you should sand down paint but since the bumpers are plastic on my car that would wear down the plastic.

  1. hi ...yes they are plastic but you can sand them down smooth... use 220 grid sand paper its a lot if work ....a electric sander helps but you have to hand sand the tough places. you cant sand down big gaps or cuts out of them but you can  get the paint off..they make a primer for plastic bumpers that works good you need it to make the new  paint stick and not crack..i left mine on the car and sand it..all the old paint does not have to come off but it has it feel smooth when you rub your hand over it .. good luck..the best way is to do it is do a small part every day or every other day until its done.its a lot of work to get it right

  2. You can sand the paint without hurting the plastic as long as you don't go too deep or create too much heat.

  3. JUST SPRAY PAINT THEM OVER.

  4. No you do not need to necessarily repaint them. if they are faded, i would buff it over for a smoother surface and then paint.if it has some chips- sand it down, prime it and then paint it.

    Good luck!

  5. Vinyl extender Flex additive is shot in with the paint Paint costs a lot.. Sanding is not a problem as long as you dont sand into the plastic. Any chipping and cracking might require new bumber covers. There are already repaired plastic bumpers brand new pontiac bumpers and not so good reproductions.

  6. No ... replacement is not necessary, just contact Year One Inc. they will have the correct paint.
