Fired Washington Capitals coach Bruce Boudreau understands situation, does not blame Alex Ovechkin
Everyone knew that the Washington Capitals were having the best of runs in the 2011-2012 National Hockey League (NHL) regular season so far, but nobody could have expected that the franchise would be firing their head coach, Bruce Boudreau, as quick as they did.
Now that the dust has settled and tensions have dropped, Boudreau came out in the open and spoke to the media, describing the situation as one he expected that would eventually take place and does not blame superstar captain, Alex Ovechkin, for having anything to do with it.
"I was nervous," Boudreau said. "You can be fired, but it doesn't mean you don't have feelings for the players, and all of the players there you get to know so well, you want them to do well. I still think they're a great team and they're going to do well, and Dale's going to do well. He's a good man. You're nervous for them because you want to see them succeed."
Even though he wanted to see the Washington Capitals succeed with or without him, it is only but natural that he felt a little pride when he witnessed the team lose against the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, his first game not being with the team.
"Hey, we're all big boys," Boudreau added. "We all know what we're getting into, and we know what the shelf life is, we know what can happen, and it's not like we don't think (getting fired) can happen.
In other reports, talks between Anaheim and Boudreau are seen to be taking place, which could possibly indicate that the Ducks organisation is looking in to bringing a more experienced coach in order to relieve the team of their woes, which has placed them in some of the lower ranks with one of their worst records in recent years.
Boudreau was not the only NHL coach let go, but was side-by-side to Carolina Hurricanes head coach, Paul Maurice, who was also dismissed due to his team performing poorly despite the immense talent present.
It will be interesting to see what will be taking place in upcoming days as these coaches will obviously be looking for another spot in the NHL some time soon.
