  1. If you have  a legitimate reason to use them, you should also have a legitimate source to buy them. Check with your chief, or look in your stations safety supply catalog.

If you don't have one check out another local fire department and use their catalog or get the contact info from it and request your own catalog.

  2. What are you? a volunteer fireman who drives like a raped ape in his private vehicle to the fire hall after getting the alarm?

It sounds like you have no training in the operation of an emergency vehicle and you are more of a hazard then your typical careless driver.

  3. You aren't going to get the same results you get in the rig regarding right-of-way, especially with dash lights.

Your best bet is to get a large, full size light bar for the top of your truck, making it look as much like a fire truck as possible.

Personally, I don't run lights and siren on my POV. It's dangerous enough in a rig. I don't need the extra risk. With POV, half the licensed population doesn't know that they are supposed to pull over for you, or that you are even a firefighter.

One car pulls over, the guy behind him goes around him, the next guy pulls over. Then what happens when you have to go through a red light? Nobody knows what they're supposed to do.

If you're in a rig- most people know to pull over and you are very visible to everyone on the road.

Also, I live a couple doors down from another firefighter on our department. He runs lights and sirens for our 2 mile drive to the hall, and I get in the same truck with him, usually.

It's not worth it, and I know that's not the answer you want.

But if you're still determined to run lights and sirens, I suggest full size and full power. Make your vehicle look like a firetruck or a police cruiser.
