At what age do most firefighters get onto the truck company? Would they get it earlier if they did something like the Fire Explorers in high school?

  1. Correct, if your experienced enough, 18 is minimum age.

It all comes down to training and ability to perform under pressure in the long run though. You will start out slow until you gain experience.

But I don't understand how Trooper can say "Being an Explorer will look good on your application, but will not get you hired any faster." ???

Think about it... anything that will give you an advantage over the other recruits will get you hired faster. Take the class, it will pay off.

An 18 yr old with more firefighting knowledge than a 21 yr old with no knowledge will get the job first. Common sense... Good Luck

  2. If you are 18 years old, and complete the firefighter certification requirements, you can be hired.

Being an Explorer will look good on your application, but will not get you hired any faster.
