Question:

Firefox 3: Address bar help?

by  |  earlier

I want firefox 3's Address bar to act the same way as it did on firefox 2. I don't want the bookmark's and recent page history in there, Only the sites I have typed in. I downloaded the firefox 2 address bar add-on, but it still shows the bookmarks and page history.

Anyone know what the problem might be?

  1. I'm looking for the same thing. Please click Edit and extend your question so it won't expire for a few more days. Thanks!

  2. To hide your bookmarks from showing up in the address bar install the Hide Unvisited add on.

    Once I added this, the recent page history would still show up.  After looking around a little more, I found a solution that worked.

    "OK, I've got it sorted. The official way for those who want to know is to open Firefox, type about:config into the address bar, click the warning button, scroll down until you see the browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped preference. Just double click on it and it will change to true."

    The answer is found in the Additional Comments section of the question the person asked about.  You can find this with the link below.  I hope this works for you two. :]

  3. First, install stylish from addon.mozilla

    Here's the link :

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox...

    Then restart your firefox. after that, click the stylish icon at the statusbar.

    click write styles > blank style

    A box will appear. at the description write hide misc

    then copy this at the large box below the description

    @namespace url(http://www.mozilla.org/keymaster/gatekee...

    /*---------------------Misc-----------...

    /*feed/security/safebrowse icons*/

    #bookmarks-chevron,

    .bookmarks-toolbar-overflow-items,

    /*hide rss feeds button/security icon*/

    #feed-button,#lock-icon,#security-butt...

    /*remove livemark menuitem icons*/

    click save, you're done

  4. Two very simple fixes

    If you want nothing to drop down from the address bar (Bookmarks or previously typed addresses) do this:

    1. in the address bar type "about:config" without the ""

    2. a warning message pops up..just click "I'll be careful I promise"

    3. Scroll down to and click on "browser.urlbar.maxRichResults"

    4. Change the value from 12 to 0

    If you only want previously typed addresses but not bookmarks start the same way but step 3 is "browser.urlbar.matchOnlyTyped" and change value to "True".

    All done
