Firefox says can't establish a connection to the server but I am able to ping out. How to fix?

Problem computer is ethernetted to main computer using a cable modem. When attempting to go online with problem machine I am told IE can't display the webpage or Firefox says cant establish a connection with server but I can still ping yahoo or google with the problem computer It is online but unable to connect to any server, IP (ptd) gave up and was not able to help.

check you firewall  and see if port 80 is being blocked.  or port 443 is being blocked . where you use a fire wall on your PC or not remember windows has one build in to its OS by default .  and these are your port that govern your web browser.

also check your configure and setting for browser suceraty a small change in configuration can mess everything up.

double check network setting .  

ipconfig / release  then ipconfig/ renew

to refresh your ip address and that should do it
