Question:

Firewall Question. Inbound/Outbound Connections? Assume bad behavior?

Just what are Inbound/Outbound Connections? When firewall detects an Inbound or an Outbound Connection, should one automatically assume it is bad behavior/hacker activity? What can be done to defend against them other than the "Block All" setting which would also disconnects me from my internet connection?

Thank you in advance.

  1. Hi

The easiest way, which is also quite safe, is to scan your computer for malware with an anti-virus and several anti-spyware, then stick with Windows Firewall.

Which firewall are you using? Are you trying to connect to a legitimate network?

Outbound connections are not malicious by itself, many legitimate programs connect to the Internet to check for updates, report statistics, etc. But some malware do use it to connect outside.

The way to defend would to focus on prevention, not cure. You can get GesWall (free version) or Defensewall (paid). They are policy restriction sandboxes and are VERY effective in keeping malware from activating in your system.

And of course get a good antivirus and scan with Superantispyware free and Malwarebytes Antimalware free once in a while.
