Question:

Firewire Port??

Went to Office Depot and asked them if they had anything that would transfer my video's from camcorder to my computer, and they gave me a fire wire. I just tried hooking it up to discover that I do not have a firewire port on my computer. Did the sales guy not tell me something else that I would need in addition to this firewire? What do I need to do?

  1. You may not have a choice as not all MiniDV camcorders allow transfers via USB, and even when they do it's more trouble than it's worth!  Firewire's the right way to go, but if you've got a laptop you'll need either a PCMCIA or Express card.  You'll need to find out what type your laptop uses (if you've got one!).

  2. Gotta love salesmen.

Go to an electronic store (I prefer newegg.com) and buy a Firewire card using the PCI bus. Like so: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

Or you can return the cable and opt to transfer files via USB instead.

    Your choice.
