Firewire card for camcorder?

i have samsung mini dv sc-382 camcorder and i was told that i need to get a firewire card thing to be able to upload and edit my vids on my laptop. what do i need to buy? and where can i get it? do i also need to buy the cable that goes into the usb port? thankyouu. o andwho can install into my laptop. or is it easy enough that you can do it yourself?.

  1. You can easily install a firewire card in a laptop - it just pushes into one of the expansion slots on the side.  You can get them at any computer / electronics shop but you need to find out whether your laptop uses PCMCIA or Express cards.  You'll also need a firewire cable - the end that goes into the camcorder will have 4 pins, the other end will have to fit your new card but it'll probably  be 6 pins.  

    You don't need anything connected to the USB port to capture your video.


  2. MiniDV camcorders use Firewire to transfer data to the computer. Believe it or not Firewire is still faster than USB and even USB 2.0 it is just not as popular-   You need to take in your laptop to a service place (like at best buy) and have them install a firewire card in it for you - this will add an extra port to the back or side of you computer, then you use a firewire cord (not a usb cord) to connect the camera to your computer.

    Your camera should of come with the cord you need for this process.
