Firewire connection lost

HiWhenever the Saffire le is connected, it says on the saffire software: "Firewire connection lost." Although in device manager it says the device is connected, I have updated the firmware inside the card, the software, and all updates for my operating system (vista). If I try to use the card with any audio software, the software hangs and I have to close it, If I scan the soundcard for changes through device settings it hangs there also. Sometimes if I restart the computer the card will connect for a second, but then disconnects and then continually does this. I am using a laptop and connecting the card via an 34 express slot with a Startech Firewire card, this has a texas instruments chipset which is reccomended by Focusrite, but I'm still getting problems. I have searched and searched the web, but very few people seem to be having this problem unfortunately!Any help would be greatly appreciated, I would have returned the card as I think that is where the issue lies, but I have ran out of time.Merry ChristmasJamie
