I bought a firewire IEEE 1394 to USB cord on eBay and i plugged it into my CPU. The camcorder says "Dv In" so i know that it is connected but when i try to import the videos to Windows Movie Maker, it says that no device is detected. Also my Cpu doesn't have a firewire inputs. Do i need to buy a firewire card, or is there some way to get this to work???

  1. You need to buy an actual firewire cable & the appropriate firewire port for your PC.

  2. The video editing application will not recognize that the DV stream is trying to come in the USB port on your computer. This DV to USB converter will not do what you want it to do. You need to install a firewire 400 port (IEEE1304a) in your computer.

If a firewire cable does not come with the firewire card you need to get, you need top buy a firewire cable, too. The kind of firewire cable you get will depend on the firewire card you get.

The typical cable will be 4-pin (camera DV port) to 6-pin (computer firewire 400 port); but it is possible that the firewire port you install in your computer is also a 4-pin...
