  1. It depends where you live.  In California, the current price is now about 16 dollars a bale.  This is buying in bulk, so it is a lower price than if you only bought 20 bales, but still not cheap.  Talk with horse owners in your area; not only will they know where to find the cheapest hay without sacrificing quality, but they can tell you the current prices for your area and how it fluctuates throughout the year.

  2. feed

you will need some kind of sweet feed or grain that costs anywhere from 4$-12$ a bag

    and then hay bales

they cost around 2$ to 9$ a bale

oh and your mom will need to know what the horse was eating before so she might as well ask the owners

  3. Well if she is going to board her horse at a barn or stable it should be part of the monthly training board.

If it isn't she will need to figure out how many flakes of hay are consumed by this horse a day. there are usually around ten flakes in a bail. a baile is usualy between $5 and $20.

She will also need to figure out what other type of food this horse takes. The different types are senior feed, sweet feed and regular. It can get pricey in that area but you buy it in big bags so it isn't that bad.

  4. approx $500/ month in feed

  5. It depends on what you feed your horse. Different types of feed cost different amounts. Also, if you live in a climate where it is cold in winter, you will need hay. The cost of hay also varies from place to place. She needs to ask the former owner what she is feeding her now and when your Mom's friend gets her, she needs to keep her on the same regiment. It is not a good thing to change the kind of feed they have been eating all at once.

  6. well it depends on where you live, and if you are borading.

If they are having her on there land, then it will be cheaper. But again it depends on where you live.

It actully depends on alot of stuff. If they have alot of long grass, and a big pasture, then it wont cost you much at all. We dont even have to give our horses hay during the summer.

But during the winter if all the grass dies because it gets cold where you live, then about 200 dollars for the hay bails. But it depends on what kind you are getting. Little ones, thats what you will pay to get about 100. big ones will be more expensive. I belive some are 50 dollars, and some are 25 dollars.

and it also depends on if there was a drought or not. So if it doesnt rain much were you live, hay will be more expensive.

So email me, and give me more details like,

    where the horse is staying,

    how big the pasture is,

if she will be with other horses,

    how long the grass is

if it rains now and then,

how cold it gets during the winter

there are so many different factors in buying hay, and feeding, that you need alot of detail.

last summer there was a huge drought were we live. And we had to pay high prices for hay. for one huge hay bail we paid 150 dollars. and it lasted them two weeks.

  7. depends on were you live.

vermont about 300 month food wise
