  1. Get last year's model of a good brand of boards. Depending on where you want to be once you learn to snowboard, you'll have to decide if you are going to doing tricks in the park, or cruising down the hill. Park boards tend to be softer and more flexible. Cruising boards tend to be stiffer.

For size you also need to take into account the size of your feet. If they are size 11-12 or larger you should get a wide board so your feet don't hang off the ends.

Depending on what kind of board you want the length could vary some. Check out Nitro's site, they have a size weight chart for all their boards and also show what type of riding the board is good for to help you decide.

I've had a Nitro board for over 3 seasons and it is still a good board, not delaminating. They are a good brand and can get you through the learning stage and beyond. Try some of the online stores for last years models at a good price

  2. go to Sports Authority.  This is a great place for begginers.  I would get between 156-160cm. The guys at the store should help you with boots and bindings.
