  1. Most people in your position get someone in the family to co-sign for them on a loan. It's a great way to get stated and build your own credit history for the next time you need a loan. Of course, there's more to buying, owning, and operating a car than that. Here is a nice web site that has a lot of good information for first time car buyers:

    http://www.firstcarguide.com/

    Good luck to you.

  2. Unless you can get your parents to buy you a car, the standard procedure is:

Get a job that does not need a car to get to

    Save your money

Swallow your pride about getting wheels with any semblance of style or performance

Buy the cheapest thing you can find that will pass the local smog test

  3. Get a job and search craigslist for a 1992-1995 Honda Civic. If possible get a VX Hatchback model because they get better mileage than anything and if you struggle to buy a car you are going to need good gas mileage.

  4. It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty, not luxury looking...

I would prefer Honda or Toyota.

I guess you should also check insurance quotes for the car before buying one, for example here: http://carinsurance.enacre.net

First time drivers usually have much higher rates than others. And it depends from car.

  5. unless your parents hand you down their old one or assist you in buying a used one, it will be nearly impossible to afford a car.

even with a part time job this would be difficult.

it seems like everyone has a car, but this isn't so
