You can find alot of good condition 4cyl cars for under 2k, my first car cost $1.5k was a ford probe, 90k, lasted untill i had more saved for something else, and with gas at these prices, the 4 cyls look better and better!

First time drivers usually have much higher rates than others. And it depends from car.

i would go with a honda civic. they last a long time and have great gas mileage. my civic cost me 900 bucks and it has over 215,000 miles on it and still like it's brand new.
