Question:

First Car! What To Buy?

I'm looking to buy my very first car in a couple of weeks. I saw a 2003 and a 2004 Hyundai Accent today, for a reasonable price $8,900. Is it a good car? I'm also looking at a Suzuki Swift or a Pontiac Wave, which I can buy a 2005 for $9,900. Which car should I buy? Any others you'd recommend? My uncle said to buy a Toyota Echo, but aren't they expensive? I'm looking for something small.

  1. Are you in the USA, those prices are very high.  For $9000 you can buy a 2004 Hyundai Sonata 4 cylinder or for $11000 you can buy a 2008 Accent new.  Suzuki and Pontiac aren't very good quality and those prices are way too high for them anyway.  Like someone said, you can probably get a 2004 Honda Civic for $9900 and it is so much better.  You may also want to check out the Mazda Protege/3, they are pretty nice, reliable and cheaper used then Honda/Toyota.  I'd stay away from the Accent/Echo unless you just want basic transportation, they are small, slow cars.  The Hyundai Elantra is a great option if you find that Honda Civics are too expensive and you don't want the larger Sonata.  I think the Elantra is the model that would be best for you along with the Protege and 2004 models of both can be had for under $7000

  2. ewww for all those cars, especially the hyundai and the suzuki. The Toyota Echo is cheap. For you, I suggest a Honda Civic, or a used Chevrolet Tahoe or Suburban. There are some under $6,000.

  3. How about a Honda Civic, the most popular first car for many people. It's a great car, reliable, safe, and cheap to insure. But, if you don't like the Civic, here is an article that might help with other ideas:

  4. Chevrolet Cobalt 2005

  5. Yes, it is a good car.

They have a bad reputation because of their bad reliability in the 90's, but now they are good cars.

    Echo's are cheap.
