I'm a 17 year old guy. I like the BMW X5 and I found a great deal on one with only 45k miles. My whole family drives Fords, VW's, and Lexus. The question I have is do you think the X5 is some what girlish? I'm going to be stuck with the car till im probably 25 so I need to like it. The problem with the Explorer is that it eats up way to much gas. My mom and dad want me to get an Edge, and they think they can make the decision because they are buying the car. Any pro's and con's on all the vehicles?

Thanks Guys

  1. I have a 2005 BMW X5 and its the best car I ever had. If you always take care of it mechanically and physically it will last you a longgg time.

  2. The BMW is a VERY nice car. It handles better than most other suvs, is luxurious, good aesthetics, and the engine works like a dream. However, even second-hand X5s are fairly pricey, and the car isn't so easy on gas or maintenance either (replacement parts are expensive.) However, if you can cope with that, it offers the most rewarding experience of the trio you mentioned.

Personally I would stay away from Ford. The Explorer is quite a nice car for daily commuting in the city- probably the easiest on fuel of the three, but lacks the BMW's punch on highways. However, the car should be far more cheaper than the Bimmer in purchase price, insurance, gas, and maintenance.

The Ford Edge was a quite unexpected product from ford. The car looks features a futuristic design. To me, however, the car looks merely boxy and unappealing. It soaks up bumps really well though, but the 'sport' department is certainly lacking. It is also not wanna of those cars you would get 30 mpg on it.

Here are some other cars that I'm sure would be more satisfying: Lexus RX330, Acura RDX, Toyota RAV4, Infinite FX35. I usually stick with Japanese cars due to its build quality, value, and performance compared to american cars. Anyways, hoped this helped =)

  3. The Edge of course! BMW's are expensive to maintain from what I hear. Who cares what your family drives? My family drives Mercury and Fords, I have 2 Toyota's. I want reliability and good MPG. Most Fords are quite reliable, and the Edge should be better on gas than the Explorer. I am probably alive today thanks to my dad making the decision on my first vehicle purchase. I wanted a muscle car and probably would have killed myself in it if I had it. I would encourage you to listen to your parents on this one. Cars are, on the most part, bad investments. The value of a new car drops dramatically when you sign the papers at the dealership. I bought my '06 Tundra new for $18,900 and they will only give me $14,000 for it on trade now and it has only 9300 miles on it and Toyota's hold their value more than most other vehicles.

  4. Go with either of the Fords.  Being young you don't have time to get the BMW fixed all the time..

  5. Um. BMW hands down.

Just because I'm in love with them.

    You're so lucky!

The Edge is nice too though, not nearly as nice as the X5 though.
