First Car which is good MPG, which to get?

I'm turning 17 next month and need to buy a car. I have around £3,000 budget to spend, and would preferably go for a diesel due to the better MPG. However as it is my first insurance i probably need a 1.4 litre engine for insurance. I looked at a peugeot 206, but still would rather something else. Any ideas?
