Question:

First Day Of School... Shyness?

I'm naturally a really outgoing, funny person. Anyone who really knows me, knows that. The only thing is, when I'm in school, I kind of shut down and become shy. There are some times when I first meet people and teachers and I just click with them, and I am my outgoing self around them. But around most teachers and kids I don't know, I'm pretty shy. I really want to break out of this, and I'm starting high school in a few days so this would be a good time to overcome my 'fear', if that's what you'd call it.

How can I become less shy around people and teachers? Thanks a million!

  1. I promise you that no matter what, the first few days are awkward. It's like that for everyone. Don't worry about it! Soon, after the first week or so everyone will be somewhat settled in and you'll be able to be fun as usual!

  2. I know what you mean, it's especially hard once you act so shy and quiet to start talking and stuff like that later... i have the same problem, so the first day, i just try to talk a lot...

  3. Just relax and try to remain calm. Don't let your nerves take over, thats what makes you shy. Just remember the kids feel just as nervous as you. Go up to one and start a conversation, pretend as if you aren't scared or as if you've known them for awhile. Everyone will be shy, so don't worry. As for teachers, some can be pretty intimidating  but don't let that get in the way. Speak up if you know the answer and don't be afraid to ask questions or whatever if you feel you need to. Some teachers are pretty fun and really nice. But really, just put yourself out there. Take a risk and do something you wouldn't normally do like talk to people you don't know. Relax and have fun! My freshmen year wasn't as bad as I thought it was, it was a good year and I survived, just like you will.

    All the best!!
