Question:

First Day Work Stories?

I'm leaving in about an hour to go to my first day on the job. I'm kind of nervous as it's only the 4th job I've ever had (and the second and third only lasted a couple days). Anyway, could you guys tell me about your first days so I will have something take my mind off of being nervous?

  1. Hi there.  I can definitely understand what you are feeling. I can remember my first job as a cashier, my hands were so nervous, they wouldn't stop shaking.  Believe me, it is perfectly normal to be nervous your first day on the job.  Just about everyone I know gets nervous on their first day to a new job because it's a whole new experience for you.    Just try and relax, take lots of deep breaths, say to yourself 'everyone has first day jitters'.  Even your 'new employees' went through it; they had a first day, too.  We are all human and this too, shall pass.  You'll be an old pro and think back, why was I so nervous.  Good luck to you.

  2. i work as a cashier for a grocery store.

1st day TRAINING was watching movies, and just kinda wandering the store seeing what was what.

1st day actually WORKING w. my trainer was i got to like you know.. cashier but i had my trainer standing behind me watching what i did, helping me.

1st day without the trainer was the best. my speed picked up.. i learned new things, memorized new codes and had a few rude customers. its all very simple, been there for a month now :)

you shouldnt be nervous if this is your 4th job, regardless of how long you were with your last employer.

  3. For the first month, or even longer than that, your excuse for everything is "Sorry, I'm new here" or "its my first/second day" you can use those for a while, whenever you are uncomfortable with something. I've had 8 jobs, and I used those phrases to no end. When I said I was new, my coworkers and customers were like Oh that's ok! and they helped me out with what they needed or what I was supposed to do. Trust me it works and will make you less nervous!
