First Group Buses - Why do so meny people hate them?

First along with a couple of other Bus Companies have operated my local service over the last 15 years or so. First have ALWAYS been on time, the drivers polite and the fares reasonable. The other operators late, rude and expensive. I must point out that I RELY on buses, as due to health problems I had to give up driving.

  1. I dont like stagecoach but there is no other choice where i live

  2. I rely on first too and quite frankly they're ****. When the bus does come it's about 10 minutes late, doesn't even show up 2/3 of the time and it costs me £4 for a 15 minute bus ride (a year ago it was £2-50) so half the time I'm late for work and it's pretty much draining my bank account

  3. I drive a first bus and i hate them too !

  4. You are taking your life in your hands with First Bus.

About four years ago, First PMT had their Operators Licence cut by a third because of their apalling maintenance record.

Within a year, both First Glasgow and First Edinburgh had suffered similar fates.

Earlier this year, First Edinburgh appeared at yet another Public Inquiry and were fined £140K for operational failures. Moreover, they are also to appear again for further maintenance shortcomings.

You might think the drivers are polite, but you might change your mind when involved in an accident caused by their lack of maintenance. And on the question of fares, the average First Bus subsidary raised fares FOUR times in 2007, boosting group profits by 50%.

Say what you like about Stagecoach and Arriva - but when were either of their companies brought to a Public Inquiry for poor maintenance?  As one dependent on buses, you should take more care with whom you travel if you value your long-term health prospects.

  5. You'd Hate Cardiff Bus. So rude and expensive.
