Hi,

I had my first IUI on July 31st, 2008 without any prior medication. But I was given prometrium after IUI which I am taking till now. I did my home preg test today morning but it was negative. My blood test at clinic is on Aug 16th, 2008. My Cycle is usually 26 days. Today I am suppose to get my periods. But as of now, no signs. Incase if i am preg, will my blood test result show that or will that be also negative? Is it too early for the blood test? They are testing on 16th day after IUI.

What do u suggest? Should I test again at home or better directly wait for my blood test?

  1. You are more likely to get a false negative than a false positive, so take another one!

  2. id go ahead and  take the blood test  even then it might come back negative and you may still be pregnant... if so and u missed a period or two go have an internal sonagram done thats the only way they found out i was!!!!!! GOOD LUCK

  3. a blood test will be able to tell you now.

  4. It can still be too early for the blood test to pick up...I suggest u wait another week and if ur period doesnt show take a test if its negative then wait another week if its negative again go to the doc and see wats going on. Good luck

  5. Blood testing for pregnancy is more efficient than home testing. Pregnancy tests measure for HCG (the pregnancy hormone), which is detectable in blood as soon as it is there. It may not be detected by a home test until 5 days to 2 weeks after your missed period. If it has only been 16 days from your IUI odds are a pregnancy would not show up on a home test. Wait until you get your blood work done and they will be able to tell. Don't get your hopes up too much though because with medical intervention, pregnancy can take a few tries! I really hope for you to be pregnant, best of luck!

Added after reading other peoples answers: a blood test can pick up on pregnancy immediatly because they look at the blood through a microscope which makes it easy to see HCG and, they do chemical testing that is way more predictable than any test bought at the store! People who are not pregnant or have not recently been pregant do not have this hormone in their blood.

  6. Wait for the blood test.
