Question:

First Job - Interviews?

I'm thinking of looking for my first job after August, and I have a question about interviews at say, Old Navy for example. My main concern is not knowing who to talk to when I go in for an interview. This is probably a silly question but it's the little things that scare me. Would they tell me where to go and who to talk to on the phone when they call to say they'd like to interview me? I just don't want to end up asking one of the cashiers who to talk to and looking like a fool.

  1. First, don't be shy about visiting the store in person and asking the cashiers or anyone else working in the store about who the manager is -- many of them probably got started over there by doing the same thing themselves.  They certainly won't think you're foolish for asking to speak to the manager. Once they point you to the manager, let him or her know that you're interested in a position at the store, and would like to get a job application if they are hiring.  Most likely you can either fill it out right then, or drop it off back at the store later.

Another option that you may prefer: quite a few places now allow you to apply online or by phone. Simply head over to the website of the company you want to apply to for more information.  You mentioned Old Navy in your post, here's the website address with details about how you can apply to Old Navy (and the Gap, their parent company):
